My Dog Just Died
I was forced to have my dog put down this morning, she was trembling with pain all night and wouldn't get up for hours.
Of all my animals, she was the one I was closest to and I'm understandably heartbroken, so you'll all understand if I avoid being online for a while.

A sad coincidence is that we also had to put our dog, Dutchess down today. It's a very sad thing to have to put down an animal, however if they are in pain it might as well be a merciful act. Still, you cannot help but to feel like for every thing the animal had done for you, such as rest their head on your lap when you were crying or played with you when you were lonely, You feel utterly useless when you cannot find a way to extend their life even by just a day. In the end, you feel like there's something missing that you should have done, yet you can never figure out what. And now, there is a big empty spot where your animal used to rest at night...
Rest assured that if your dog lived longer than 10 years, s/he had a wonderful and good long life. If s/he was truely in pain and you couldn't figure out the reason to it, then letting her find eternal rest was the best thing you could have done for your dog. They will surely be missed, every animal is unique and special. However, they are happy in an eternal bliss now. Or at least, free from miserable agony, which in istelf is a better thing than letting them suffer.
it is alright to be sad of a lost animal. Especially one you grew up with. I hope everything works out for the better for you.

Re: My Dog Just Died
I understand that what has just happened is very difficult to deal with. Words cannot express the amount of sorrow I feel for you and your loss. I know how much she meant to you. However, I'm sure wherever she is now, she is very happy and no longer suffering at all. I can only hope now that you are able to work through your grief as best as you can. You're one of my best friends in the whole world and you being sad makes me sad too. As I'm typing this, my stomach clenches and I come the closest to crying I have in over two years...
However, you know as well as I do that she will never be truly gone as long as you remember her. It is up to you to keep her memory alive and well. I know how much you loved her and I'm sure that this won't even be an issue to you. I also firmly believe that when the day comes, you and her will be reunited in warming and beautiful harmony. You did a wonderful job taking care of her while you could. You're one of the best animal caretakers I've ever had the pleasure of becoming acquainted with.
Don't worry about things around here. I'll keep the forum up and running under decent control while you take all the time you need. I hope for your sake you can feel better in the not so distant future. I know it won't be easy, but you have my support. If you do in fact change your mind on being online at all, I'm more than willing to listen to you and talk to you and help you in any way I can. You've helped me with issues and problems more times than I can count, so its only fair that I offer you that same love and compassion.
So all in all, I'm so sorry for all this. I wish you the best in your time of grief and sorrow. You have all of my love and support through everything.
