Re: Plans for Thanksgiving?
Our family always has ham! None of us really like turkey, so it just happened...
What about you Silk??

Re: Plans for Thanksgiving?
My family tries to get a local, organic turkey each year.
But last year we were all so swamped with work that my mother just ran into Heavenly Ham and bought a bird. Yes, Heavenly Ham sells turkey... XD
I have no real plans yet, my brothers and sister in law will be here, and maybe some friends.
We'll probably just have a medium turkey and some sides. I still have some pumpkin pie mix (made from scratch) I may bake for it.

Well for me, every year is different, besides putting up the Christmas decorations. This year, we're getting a store bought turkey and eating at my grandma's house so that she isn't lonely.

Re: Plans for Thanksgiving?
I'll be curious to see what happens this year.
The first year I spent away from my parents, I was ill and all alone at FSU. The second year, I went up to Georgia to visit my sig other's best friend and his family -- which we all consider each other family regardless. Best friend's dad lives right behind our house here, we could walk over and be welcomed in unconditionally. It's nice. Last year, I went to my grandparent's..
This year, I'm working an odd double shift at work (hey, the animals still need us to a degree)... so I don't know what I'm really doing.
All I know is that RIGHT after Thanksgiving, my father-in-law sets off the "Christmas Bomb." They've got oodles and oodles of Christmas decorations and thingamajiggers, and that's the only holiday he ever gets revved up for.. and goes all out. Pictures, if I can get them.

Re: Plans for Thanksgiving?
I hope that you get a nice big Thanksgiving dinner, you deserve one!
And it's nice to see anyone getting revved up over any event. My house is getting kind of jaded and just running the same old routines.
I need to talk with the poultry people on my mailing list, and buy a live turkey. That'd spice up Thanksgiving to have a pet turkey gobbling at the window! XD

Re: Plans for Thanksgiving?
I have a lot of family coming this year for Thanksgiving. My father is thinking about trying Turduckin, only not stuffed into each other. (One Turkey, one duck, one chicken)
I will be making my usual apple pie filling. I'm still not brave enough to make my own crust, it's just a risky thing to do for a holiday.

Re: Plans for Thanksgiving?
A crust isn't too hard, it's mainly just flour, water, and salt. Just roll it between two sheets of waxed paper, press it into your pie pan, and crimp the edges to make it pretty.
Be sure to cover the exposed edges with aluminum foil before you bake, to prevent burning.
I'll post the full recipe if anyone wants, my family all raved when I used it for my pumpkin pie.

I am willing to see how to make a pie crust. It might be a good spin for this year this Thanksgiving.

I'm grateful for NiGHTS and SEGA's efforts at keeping the series alive (even though not all fans were properly grateful for JoD)

Plans for Thanksgiving?
For those of you who celebrate the American holiday Thanksgiving, what are your plans for that day? Going to a relative's for dinner? Watching football or a parade? Share with us and discuss in the topic, if you'd like!
As far as I know, I'm spending my Thanksgiving putting up Christmas decorations around my house and will be going to the church that my great aunt and uncle manage to get their hands on every year for our family thanksgiving dinner. Here and there I might be watching one of the parades on TV.

Re: Plans for Thanksgiving?
Sounds like what happens 'round here, although the day after Thanksgiving is usually when my stepdad drops what we've dubbed "the Christmas Bomb." There are years' and years' worth of collected decorations... I should take before and after photos, because there's really no way to describe it. We'll see how up to it he's feeling.
Otherwise, I'm in my usual dilemma of my grandma wanting me to go down to her house, my folks wanting me to head up to theirs, and the folks here wanting me to stay. My mom wants me to go out to visit her in California, but that's kind of standard since I haven't been out in a long time. I'll juggle my time the best I can with everyone, depending if I get hired for a job or not this week. Just about everywhere, we have turkey and green bean casserole (which is usually my favorite), lotsa dinner rolls and mashed potatoes. We'll eat, groan about the cleanup, and try not to fall asleep before it's time to go home. Depending on where I am, someone's usually got the football games on.
Horrible time of year to decide to be on a diet, though ... XD
If I don't eat at least one plateful, everyone gets on my case.

Re: Plans for Thanksgiving?
I moved this to the Events section, since holidays are events.
Since we already had a Thanksgiving topic, I merged the two.
I'm just staying home and having a few relatives over. We never do anything big.
The chickens get to eat the turkey neck and such, though.

Dinner was quite satisfying. I do believe I shall stay put the rest of the evening and stay away from any other food.
