Sonic 4: Episode 1 Empty Sonic 4: Episode 1

Hi guys! I couldn't see a Sonic 4 thread so I figured I could make one. If there is one already, please feel free to point it out ^_^;

Having just downloaded Sonic 4 today on my 360, I gave it a whirl. And didn't get off until I'd finished it (not counting the Chaos Emeralds, which I still need to get)

I was pleasantly surprised with how it turned out.

I had been skeptical about the game, just from viewing trailers and such, and I hadn't been able to get a go on it at Summer of Sonic (as I was too busy queuing to try Sonic Colours instead), so I wasn't exactly sure what to expect.

The trailers made the game look floaty, unfinished in places, and even the release trailers didn't really assuage my scepticism. But I jumped straight in and bought it once it came out on the XBLA, and I am glad I did.

In action, the game looks pretty darn good, far better than any youtube video can portray. The music, while not up to the standard of the Genesis games, it catchy. And even Sonic and Eggman's cel shaded models don't look too out of place.

The bosses, even though they are for the most part reworkings of bosses from earlier games, are pretty interesting, and quite challenging.

Which brings up another point. Lives are really easy to get in this game, but they are equally easy to lose. Bottomless pits, trick paths, and badniks that come from nowhere are all there to knock your life count down, and the difficulty shoots up in the last two levels. I lost count of how many times I died XD But I like a challenge, so I kept playing regardless.

The special stages are hard too, they're like the Sonic 1 stages, only you control the stage instead. It is very confusing, at least for me. The difficulty curve in these is just as unforgiving as in the levels.

I don't have a HD TV so I might be missing something graphics-wise, but it still looks good.

All in all, a good start to Sonic 4, and I'm interested in seeing where Episode 2 takes us next Smile

Has anyone else played it yet? If so, what console do you have it on and what do you think of it?
